Default rims for my car

ok guys i want to upgrade my rims on my car. now what is a good set of rims that is not too heavy and it stills look good on a true blue mustang i had a set of 18x9 deep dish bullits black and silver and it looked really nice. but they were a little heavy on my opinion now will the a.m. 17 inch bullitts would also be heavy because i really like the black and silver on my car

The wheels in my sig are 99' GT Starfish wheels and are 17"x8" they take a 245-45-17
They only weigh in at 17lbs and are the lightest 17" Ford OEM wheel for our Mustangs.

The average 245-45-17 tire comes in at about 24lbs. So the average total weight of each wheel/tire combo is about 41lbs, add for valve and weights.

95R's are 21-23lbs, there is a lot of variation in claims out there.
Cobra 10th's are 21-24lbs.
Mach 1 wheels are 25lbs.

There needs to be a better wheel guide with pics of the weights on a calibrated scale but we have to make due with what he have right now.

Here is one thread, there are several if you look.

CCW makes a really nice lightweight wheel, but I doubt you want to spend 3-4 grand on a set of wheels.

....you'd need to store those rims every night in a vault. Thats alot of green. Whats the cut time in the quarter w/ those type of wheels. DO you know?

They're not really a good drag wheel. Most are 18-19" wheels, so there isn't a lot of room for sidewall. They're just really nice looking, lightweight wheels.

A good drag rim would be a Weld (like in my sig), or something similar.

my budget is no more than 1000 on rims and tires and i'm looking for something that is a mustang specific wheel my 18x9 black and silver deep dish bullitts looked killer on my car (true blue mustang) but they made my car a little bouncier and a little slower. now how bad would a set of american muscle bullitts 17's would be compared to my stock 16s?

You can get some ROX Candi 20'' rims!!

[/sarcasm]

Those rims were a ****ty investment for my T-Bird project, don't waste your time. The rims that originally came on my 96 GT I thought were pretty cool.

They ended up going on my 97 coupe though. For $125 I bought a set of factory stock rims with tires on Craigslist. No idea what the weight is, but alloy rims are very easy to paint. Cover the tire bordering the rim, than do two base coats with auto primer. Than two coats of 'x' paint. Let it dry, two coats of clear. Whole thing costs ago $15 and takes about 6 hours max. I'm not sure what the weight is on these tires either is, but just showing that painting alloys can be a last ditch option.

With a budget of $1000 you have a lot open to you.
You might want to stop over at SVTP and take a look in the Wheels For Sale section.
