the vans are FWD.. not rear and will not bolt in at all unless heavy mods to the engine bay. Either need to buy the stroker kit or find a 97+ f150, the engine changes a bit in the 2000's though but can't remember the year.

Any tuning required if you swap the heads/intakes/fuel rails/etc over from the 3.9L v6 to the 4.2L shortblock? Like if I were to blow my V6 up autocrossing this year, could I just switch over to the 4.2L shortblock and run it as is?

I have not heard of any issues of going to a stock stroker.
A tune will help with power, but otherwise you shouldnt have a problem.

The Cam is different so be sure to change the cam out with your stock one.

If your going to go that far though you should do a cam and dynotune.

Whats your budget this year if you blow your motor?

Hmm not really sure what the budget would be. 1500 at any given time. Seems like a "good" 4.2L shortblock is only 2-300 dollars used, and the quick turn around of sticking with the big v6 vs. v8 swap is the main reason i'd do this. If the motor goes near the end of the season, might just look for a 4v something that got into a wreck and go from there. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind some more cubic inches.

Mild cam, intake/head porting and megasquirt...has a nice ring to it...
