Can you get one for cheap? The 4.2 is just a stroked 3.8 from the mustang. The upper intake manifold on the f150 has longer/larger runners though and I can't remember if it fits under the stock hood or not off the top of my head. Can't help on the years..sorry...I assume 99-04 for sure

Ive been curious about this swap, will a 4.2 shortblock work with 3.9 heads and intakes? with factory pcu/ecm? i imagine the bump in displacement would help bottom end torque tremendously

heads are basically the same. stock intake wont fit under a stock hood, so most swap over the stock 3.8 upper intake manifold.

youll need to swap some parts- off the top of my head, exhaust manifold, oil pan, UIM. But for the most part, its a bolt-in job.

With just the bottom end swap, you'll be at or over stock 5.0L (pushrod not the new 5.0L) power. It's well worth it.

Just use your Mustang upper intake, exhaust manifolds and you'll need the 01-04 3.8L oil pan to clear the crank. Oh, and use the truck flywheel.

All pushrod 4.2L from the mid 90's to early 2000's.
