Question New to forum, looking for buy for my son...

Glad I stumbled upon this forum! I could use some advice. I'm getting ready to buy my son his first car...he fell in love with a 2002 Mustang, 91,000 miles, a rear spoiler (I think, I don't know cars!) It says it has a K&N Air Filter and it's been excellently maintained. They are asking $6,500. I've owned two mustangs myself so I know how fun the cars are to drive. My problem is his dad. He's concerned that there may be too much maintainance on a Ford for it to last him the next five years or so because of the mileage - even tho it's low for it's age. But after looking at cars for two months, it's the first one my son has really liked. Any advice on how to alleviate dad's fears? Otherwise my son will be stuck with a Honda Accord! Thanks for any advice!

You're saying "my son" and then you say "his father" ?

Anyways Fords are nice cars. My 01 has 130+k on it and it's fine. Gonna get a tune up soon is all.

HA HA!! When he agrees with me, he is "my husband". When he doesn't, he's just the boys' dad! Thanks for the info.

These engines LAST FOREVER if properly taken care of. The 02's only have 1 factory flaw that I know of and that is the A/C condensor drips onto the pass. side exhaust manifold causing it to crack. Easy, and cheap repair. There is a memeber here that last time I checked had over 300K on his little 3.8 IIRC. Can you post some pics of the car your looking into? 5 speed, or auto?

Oh lord. I just now saw your name. I thought you were a man. Sorry. Teach me to post with no sleep, loaded on my pain meds, and come home from a day of bill paying to find my hot water pipe busted and water all over. SIGH.
