So first off, thanks for the awesome forum! I have been lurking for the past couple weeks after picking up a '97 Mustang. I am trying to get some of the kinks worked out of the car, and one that has me rather baffled is a strange knock/rattle sound when the car is under belt load. Here is what I know:

• When I apply pressure to the steering wheel left or right, I hear the knock/rattle.
• When the fan kicks on I hear the knock/rattle.
• When the alternator is under load (i.e. power seats) I hear the knock/rattle.
• When I rev the motor, there is no knock/rattle.
• It sounds like it's external (not an internal engine knock).

Any suggestions on where to start looking? I had my head under the hood for a while earlier trying to figure it out and left me scratchin' my noggin.

I will pry end up taking a sound/video clip of the occurrence later if it will help diagnose the issue.

Oh and the power steering fluid level was full when I checked it.
