Only starts in Neutral, and no gear indicator.
I just got a 1999 V6 mustang, about 200,000 miles.
Anyway, we got the car for about $800, but it needed a transmission. We got all that sorted, and I have the car now. but I have two main problems.
One, my car won't start in Park. It doesn't even know it's in park. (The car will still roll when in park. I have to set the emergency brake.)
In order to start the car, I have to put the key in, turn it over so I can put the car in neutral, put the emergency brake down, then start the car.
The shifter feels like it doesn't really shift all the way into park. It just feels kind of loosely in there.
Another problem, maybe completely unrelated, is I have no gear indicator on the dash. No backlight or anything.
I would really appreciate it if you could help (:
Thanks

Whoever put the transmission in didnt hook everything up right. Your gear selector sounds like it may not have mounted properly and hasnt been wired in correctly. Check the connections in the center console against a factory diagram.

I heard it could possibly be the link, that it needs to be tightened. I noticed in Park it's loose, and bringing the selector all the way down to first, it feels pretty loose too.
And I just realized, there is nowhere for it to even show the current gear, except on the selector itself. So there is no problem there.
