Question 2001 3.8L V6

My car has never overheated. I was driving and heard a rumble so I pulled in at a store t echeck engine light came on so I shut it off. Change the plugs, ignition coil, and EGR valve. Bought a OBD2 and shows no codes. While it was sitting there idling, I heard a loud clank like metal to metal and shut it off again. I checked all levels in the car and took the radiator cap off(while cold) and there is back pressure on the coolant. What do you guys think it could be?

If its a constant 'clank' it could be a thrown rod. I would suggest changing the oil and see if there are dramatic amount of metal in it. With out a video of the car running its hard to tell.

Thanks..It went to the shop today. Do you have any suggestions on another engine? Something not stock on my car..I am wanting to beef it up. Would a V8 fit in my car?

Yes a v8 will fit in your car, however your going to have to change out your computer and all the goods. And something along the lines of you have to use a v8 designed for your model year or newer to pass inspection. i could be wrong about that part

If it is a blown engine you can always transplant the 4.2L in. don't do the v8 swap.. just not smart.

yup, the 4.2L would be your best bet to beef up a little.
A 4.2L is a 3.8L that has a stroker crank in it and came in the 97+ F150 and E150.

This would be a great time to buy a power pack kit from Super Six Motorsports and get a really nice boost in power.

Thanks guys!!! Yes the motor is blown. My mech said it is weird there were no warning signs and yes it threw a rod. Where would the best place to buy a new or rebuilt 3.8 or a 4.2?
