My 04 3.8L is starting to have a shuddering issue in 2nd and 3rd gear. It only happens during acceleration and it's starting to happen more frequently where it doesn't accelerate smoothly and shudders. It has a bad alternator, which is getting replaced soon. Any ideas on what the shuddering could be? Is it just the alternator acting up?

If the alt isn't spinning properly or dragging, it could be putting strain on the motor.

**Update**

Just replaced the alternator with a remanufactured 110amp (and a new serpentine belt). But I'm still seeing the same shuddering issue in 2nd-4th gear. It seems to have particular trouble going uphill. Any thoughts on what this issue might be? Should I have gone with a brand new alternator?

Just out of curiosity, what lead you to believe it is the altinator to begin with?
