Default 98 Mustang V6 3.8L no start, no crank!

What could be the issue if my 'stang will occasionally fail to start with no crank? Drove it out today, went to start her up again and she wouldn't crank, seemed like the starter was making noise, tried to jump start, that didn't do it. After trying to start it for 20 minutes, was about to give up, tried one last feeble attempt to jump start it and it started right up. I tested the battery and got 12.75 volts. It did this once last summer when it was 95 degrees. I live in MN and it was 39 degrees yesterday, went up to 70 degrees today... not sure if that would have an effect. The battery is about 7 years old. I just want to make sure it isn't something worse like a failing starter or alternator. Radio, lights, etc turned on with the key in On position; at the time the battery meter was close to low, but now it is right in between low and high like it should be. This has only happened twice now, but it is an inconvenience. Should I just replace the battery? Any suggestions?

Well since the battery is 7 years old I would probably say that you should go out and get another one. Or you could take a wire brush to the connectors and see if you can get some of the gunk off. There are 3 main things a car needs to start and run fuel, ability to breath, and spark. My suggestion would be to get a new battery, pull the starter and test it to see if that is the cause. Next course of action I would check the spark plugs and wires. Than I would check your fuel injectors for being maybe a little bit clogged. Maybe throw some injector cleaner in every other tank of gas. But really the most important thing for you to do first is the battery and check the starter.
