Default Brake Light switch Wire Over heating

OK have to do this a few times now. 2004 Mustang and one side of the switch keeps over heating the wire and shorting/cooking the wire. Anyone else have this problem. I am almost out of wire to connect to.

Short in the circuit? Test all the wires from the circuit board see if they're getting fire before you start replacing it again. It's just going to keep overheating until the problem is fixed. Be careful and don't set it on fire. XD

Did you do a good visual inspection to make sure there is no corrosion on the sockets? Maybe remove all the bulbs for the brake lights as it could be a bad socket. Definitely drawing too much current hence the heating of the wire. Did you do any recent changes to the electrical system? A good troubleshooting technique is to go back to the last thing you did before the problem occurred.

Good luck!

Found the issue... the new tail lights that were installed were not sealed very well so water got into it. After looking at it noticed the water on the inside of the light housing. Dried the unit out,, checked the bulb sockets and could see some signs of heat so after putting dialetric grease on all the bulds,, resealed the lights around the perimiter and then cauled all that I could.. Now no more water and short no longer happening. Nothing like a little water vapor on electrical stuff to short out stuff...

Glad you figured it out. Dielectric Grease is awesome! I love the stuff.
