Default metal flakes in my differential fluid...is it okay?

I had a rear pinion seal leak so I had to replace it. However when I went to put in more gear oil I found tiny metal flakes in my differential fluid. Is this a big issue?

My mechanic friend said I might need to replace the rear end soon. My racing mechanic friend said its no big deal.

It depends on how big the flakes are. If they are the size of pieces of glitter then you should be fine. If they are larger then it could be a bearing going bad and getting ready to grenade. Pull the diff cover off and check the magnet at the bottom of the diff. If it has chunks of metal then you need some diff work. Good luck...
