Default Ignition switch not catching

Tried to start my car this morning and the ignition won't do anything. I am getting lights and radio with the switch in on position, but the car won't start, won't do anything at all actually. When I turn the key there is no click between the on and start position. Does anyone have suggestions was wondering if this is something I could do myself??

Is it an automatic? If so, try putting it in Neutral instead of Park. If it starts in Neutral you have a bad Neutral Safety Switch (a.k.a. transmission range sensor). Replacing it is fairly simple in theory, but a PITA in practice because there isn’t a lot of clearance to get to it. It is on the drivers side of the tranny, just above the transmission oil pan and only an inch or so away from the exhaust pipe. So clearance is tight, but its do-able.
