Default air injection system pump fault

ok, on my '99 base model I have a "check engine" light coming on caused by a mal function in the air pump located under the right fender. my question is, can I just unplug and remove it and reset the computer? from what I can gather, all it does is inject / pump air into the exhaust to alter the emissions in the 1st few minutes after start up.
thanks.

You can either
1 unplug it
2 leave it be
3 replace the or repair the problem.

The cel will continue to illuminate until you fix the actual problem. You cant unplug it and just clear the codes. They will come back after the PCM detects it is missing from the circuit. It does not hinder your performance, but if you are in a smog testing state your car will fail .

You can purchase a new secondary air pump for around 75-100 bucks. It may just be corrosion in the wires as well.

if I disconnect it, is there some way to re-wire or bridge the plug so the pcm thinks it's still there?

unfortunately I know of no way to trick the computer into thinking its there.

I know there are some mil eliminators for things such as egr, and rear 02s but I have not heard of one for the air pump. You could probly turn it off with a tune, which would likely cost more than the air pump.
