Default Shocks and Struts

I'm back to adding to my build list for my car. I think the big thing I'm either going to save for over the summer or with my tax return next year are new shocks and struts. The handling of the car leaves a lot to be desired. The stock shocks and struts still work, but are overly worn and need replaced. Does anyone have any suggestions for replacements that don't break my savings account? I've found kits at American Muscle and Late Model Restoration for $250 and up. The $250 kit pretty much stock struts and shocks. Are there any better that aren't really expensive?

Best thing I ever did to improve the handling of my wifey’s ’98 mustang was replace all the stock rubber bushings with polyurethane from Energy Suspension. Beat the crap out of any shock/strut combo you could buy, in my opinion.

As for shocks/struts, I run Monroe Sensa-trac’s on all my vehicles and have no problems. If you lowered your ride, or race it on a track with turns a lot then there are probably better and more expensive options. But if your ride is a daily driver then you don’t need super fancy & expensive shocks/struts. Of course you will get tons of opinions in this area, like oil and what spark plugs to use. Good luck...

I concur, Monroe makes decent daily driver stuff. And wont rattle your fillings out like the performance stuff.

Hey Matt

Good question and if I had my '01 and was doing this all over again I would literally overhaul everything and go for the Eibach Pro-Damper Strut & Shock Kit. Given that it's going to be outside of what you're looking to spend if you wanted to go with just the struts and shocks we're more than happy to help get you set up with a discount code to help the sales tax. We ship from the Philadelphia area and would likely have parts to you within 24 hours. Let me know if you have any questions and we're here to help or shoot us a call!

Thanks. I ran a search at Monroe.com, and got listings for OESpectrum shocks and struts, as well as Monroe-matic shocks and struts. Monroes website doesn't give any prices. I've checked Advance Auto and Pep Boys, and there are different sizes to the bushings, and also found the sense tracs. I think I'm planning on getting those, but I'd like to spring for the bushings as well.

I installed Monroe OE Spectrum shocks and struts on my 2001 V6 Mustang. The originals had over 160k miles and I was very pleased with the ride improvement. Relatively easy to replace and well worth the cost and effort. In my humble opinion. thanks,
