Smile mustang passing the torch

hi, growing up I had a 67 mustang for many years. fast forward many more. my youngest son has taken interest in the mustang. to be more exact the '02 thru '04. v-6 model cause that's all he can afford, he is 14 almost 15. we have located an '02 with 90k miles , one owner and pretty good condition. question; what do I need to look at mechanically on these or problems I may expect down the road. thanks in advance , Gary

Those years are pretty good mechanically so not sure. How is he going to afford one? I couldn't pay for a car until I was 17 and working.

Welcome to MF. If really interested in it, take it to a mechanic and pay a few bucks to have it completely checked out.

That's great that he wants a mustang. I did the same - had a '68 many moons ago and my son bought a 1-owner 2000 base model with a V-6 5 years ago. The key is 1-owner; the majority of 1-owner cars are well maintained.
Just to freshen the car after purchasing it (first year) I replaced: brakes, calipers, clutch, clutch cable, struts, shocks, tie rods, water pump, radiator(plastic cracked), master cylinder, fuel pump, harmonic balancer, plugs and wires. Just last week had to replace exhaust - Cat disintegrated and plugged exhaust on RT bank.
Car has been a great trouble-free vehicle for him for over 80,000 miles and is still going strong.

Also, after a few "fender benders" I utilized a local U-pick-it parts yard to get replacement body parts - the yard was full of mustangs. I picked up the paint at the site below and learned how to paint body panels and bumpers. The paint matched perfectly and it was pretty easy to complete (maybe he's given me too many opportunities to practice!).
