Default Mach 460 or 1000 on a convertible

So I'm currently restoring a 2nd convertible, a yellow 2002 convertible. PO sold it to me for cheap because the top has issues. With that issues it leaked inside and I'm in the process of getting the mold or whatever is growing in there. Aside from the paint that got worst with covering it for a long time.

So the top is almost repaired (waiting for the glue for the rear glass) and next on my agenda is the sound system.
I think it's a Mach 460 (since I don't see any 1000 label on the HU) with speakers near the side mirrors and speakers on both door panel. I assume the small speakers are for normal audio range and the lower/door panel speakers are the front subwoofer speakers (driven by the amp at the trunk) The rear has 2 small speakers on top and 2 speakers similar in size to the front, I assume the same setup for the front (large speakers are subwoofers)
Are my assumptions correct?

Now the issue, the small speakers are working front and rear (using FADE) but the large speakers. Is it possible that both of the amps are busted (due to water leak) ? or the amps were not triggered at all (amp wire to HU might be busted) If I am sure that it is a Mach 460 setup then I could probably trigger the amp manually (by supplying 5v+) and listen for a pop in the speakers.

Far from knowing a lot but my speakers on the rear deck...not verti...have MACH 460 labeled on the screens.

I think all amps have fuses...maybe the water blew them?

Your assumptions are correct. The small speakers do high range and are powered by an amp under the radio. The big speakers are woofers and both the front and rear woofers are powered by amps behind the rear seat next to the convertible top motor. Check fuses first, but it's possible those amps got fried. I found a replacement amp myself a year ago for 40 bucks used on eBay.

thanks guys, I'll probably head out to the junkyard and scour for some, I just got the rear windshield glued back and it shouldn't be leaking..
interior still smells with vinegar..

If it smells like that its most likely just the padding behind the carpet.

I actually used vinegar to clean the interior, it's taking a while for the smell to completely disappear.

finally fixed the subwoofer amps issue. the mach 460 amps are definitely POS electronics and I think my 04 will have this same issue later. the resistors are prone to burning and sometimes it also includes the transistor. both of the resistors that go bad are 56 ohms, I can't find an exact match in radioshack so I ended up buying 22 and 33 ohm resistors. I just connected them in series which is almost close to 56 ohms. I have to gently pry the transistors out from the heat sink which is also the case since they are brittle. After the resistors are replaced, subwoofers are back to normal. We'll see how it last.

Funny thing about scouring parts in junkyards are the surprises.. just found ammo in one of the GT's trunk.

the good part.

replacing.

resistors from radio shack

2 resistors connected in series to get the 56 ohm (55ohm in my case)

Nice write up, I have to go check the amp for my rear speakers. Fronts work, rears do not so may be the same issue. Hopefully mine is resistor related also, will give me something else to do on the weekends.
