Default Crank for several seconds, before firing up.

New problem d'jour.

2000 V6 project car.

When I start the car, it takes several seconds of cranking before it actually starts. I actually counted 6 mississippis before it the first pop. Then it stutters to a start over the next 1-2 seconds.

It did this Sunday when I tested it, and again this morning. If I stop and immediately restart, it's OK.

I'm thinking fuel pump. But I'm game for suggestions.

Have you checked the fuel rail to make sure your getting a good flow to the rail? Be an easier first check before dropping the gas tank. Mine had a similar issue when I replaced the engine but I had an injector that was partially clogged.
