Default Remote start on a 97

So Ive done quite a bit of searching and I can't find a definitive answer as to which kind of module I need to bypass my factory anti theft. It does not have keyless entry and I've installed the remote start but without the key in the ignition the theft light comes on and its yellow as opposed to red like in my 01 and my expedition (don't know if that matters) any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would take it to a shop and have them install the remote start and let them figure it out. That way you get a warranty and guarantee it will work properly.

I did the install of the remote start myself but there is indeed a anti theft system I've got to bypass but I've been told Fords have a funny anti-theft. And as far as taking it to a shop being that it's a manual most places wont touch it.

Here we go again... It's a manual you say? Bad idea to install a remote start on a manual. All it takes is for the tranny to be left in gear and to accidentally hit the start button and viola, instant accident/crash.

Couple of stories on here about people that decided to ignore the professional opinions/advice and the Forum members common sense and went ahead and installed it on a Manual car.

Here are the links.

One such car ended up in a pond and tried to sue the shop. They lost and were stuck with a totaled car (flooded) that their own insurance had to pay. This was on an 05+ model.

Here's the thread where we tried to talk him out of it:

And this is the one where his car got totaled:

There is not danger of that if the remote start is correctly installed for a manual trans. The trans mission has a nuetral safty switch located inside of the transmission and if its not completing the circuit the car wont start.

Are you talking about bypassing this?
https://lmr.com/item/LRS-11156A/86-9...-Safety-Switch

In order for the car to start, the pedal must be pushed in to close the circuit on this switch and allow the starter circuit to engage. If you bypass that in order to get a remote starter kit to work (as in the pedal doesn't need to be pushed or the car thinks it's been pushed), you've just created the scenario where the car can be started in gear and can jump a curb/hit another car, or end up in a lake/ditch.

If there were a way to "properly" do it, shops wouldn't have an issue doing it and OEM's would offer it as a optional feature in manual transmission cars.

No thats the clutch interlock switch,, there is a neutral safty switch either inside of the transmission or you install one on the Shifter. The Remote system bypasses the clutch interlock switch, but it will not operate unless the neutral safty switch circuit is complete.

There are special remote starters that can be programed to safely start a manual transmission . It basically does 3 things
1. It bypasses the clutch interlock
2. It checks for neutral safety circuit
3. It checks for ebrake engagement.

Correctly installed there is no way for it to start in gear.

This page lists just about every make model year of car and what immobilizer bypass you need.

http://www.drdetailshop.com/Transponderreference.htm

Yours calls for 555F or alternate 556U Type B pats you will need a second key to go into the module I believe.

I thought I had one, but when I went and dug it out it was a 1100F for 98+ cars.

Thanks for clarifying/educating without getting all agro

I can't say I've ever come across a manual with a remote start (that was setup correctly).
