My New 94 3.8 5MT Won’t Stay Running
Hi all,
Noob here to the Mustang world. Just bought the car from a family friend 4 hours away in Dallas. Drove up to get it and could not drive it home. It has been sitting for about 3 years, and I put new wheels and tires on it to drive home but she was not cooperating. After new gas, gas treatment, got her to turn over a few times but would not stay running for longer than. 5 minutes or so. Sounds like she is starving for fuel, but I am not too sure.
My question, when a car is sitting this long, what are the common things to do to get her running again? I know this is very vague, so just looking for common Mustang experiences in this situation, not for someone to unreasonably Diag my car over the internet haha.
Thanks for your time.

Did the car come with any service history? If not, one of the first things you'll want to do is "reset the clock" on all maintenance items. Change fluids, filters, give it a tune-up, etc. Speaking of which, did you change the fuel filter?

Did not do anything expect put good gas. I did buy a fuel filter but have not installed it yet. I just had it towed to a shop, funny thing is the wrecker driver started it right up and drive it into the truck.
Problem is the car is in Dallas and I am back in HOUSTON now.

OK, shop just called. They said it needs a new fuel pump, as this one is only running fuel at 20psi. Also recommended draining and cleaning the tank, and flushing out the injectors... Can anyone tell me what that service should cost? I only paid $650 for the car and they want $800 to do this work.

I am just guessing but, I would say it's probably $150 to flush injectors, should pay 1.5 hrs to dorp the tank and replace the pump...maybe another hour to clean the tank. So depending on their labor rate...(125/hr)...? That comes to 475 plus parts? Sounds like an expensive pump. I'd ask for them to show you what they are charging you for.
