Have a knocking that sounds like it's coming from top driver side ,it will knock for about 5-10 second then quit and engine runs smooth and quite for 10 seconds to a few min then start knocking again, any idea what this might be, thanks

If its more of a ticking sound, its probably a lifter especially if it stops shortly after starting the car, and then starts again. Not really too much to worry about if thats all it is

This may sound crazy butin march i bought my 2003. I drove from houston to la and it began to knock. Sounded like rod. I took to couple shops. One guy told me take off belt , see if still knocks. Thought he was nuts.

Turns out pulley pn water pump . Sounded just like rod knock. No kidding.
