Default Nasty Oil Leak help

Hi all, brand new here, posting for the first time looking for some help. I bought a 2000 3.8 Mustang as a project car this Summer, and it has a nasty oil leak. With the car running and hot, oil will drip straight down from the oil filter. I researched that and all I found was "oil filter housing gasket" for the 4.6 V8 Mustang. If I'm reading things correctly, 3.8 does not have a housing gasket? What I'm seeing is it would be the oil pump gasket/oring/seal/whatever you want to call it. Would this make sense to you as to why it is leaking straight down and off the oil filter? I have UV dye in the mail that can help me out a little bit more.

As far as replacement of the pump seal, is it as easy as it looks? Drain oil, unbolt the couple bolts and pop it straight off, replace oring, slap it back on and bolt it on? Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

Welcome!

Have you already ruled out the filter as the source of the leak? The filter could be loose, cross-threaded, or damaged. The filter gasket could also be out of place, or doubled from the previous filter leaving its gasket behind.

Yes I have, should've put that in the OP. Filter is tight, lubed, on straight, and there was no remaining gasket on the housing when I installed the new one. Thank you for your response!

My oil filter housing was also leaking! I had to go to AutoZone and buy that black gasket material to make a gasket for mine. I got the gasket type that was for oil. I couldn't find an oil filter housing gasket anywhere either

Part #9 (N), you say you can't find, anywhere?

Item - Part Number - Description
7 - N806156- Oil filter adapter bolts (4 req'd)
8 - 6881 - Oil filter adapter
9 - 6A636 - Oil filter adapter gasket

Auto Zone, Advance Auto, shows they carry them, or can order them.

eBay, all over the place.

I found that gasket all over the place but everything I found only said 4.6, not compatible with the 3.8

Does yours have the coolant lines going to it?
Even this says V6 and V8:

Sometimes I get the same crap... Can only get V8 answers, like the V6 doesn't
exist...

Alright so update, did a UV dye test and oil was coming out above oil pump at what I thought was oil pressure sending unit. Removed oil pump, it was threaded as tight as it would go, so I did another inspection with the dye. It appears to be leaking right above the OPSU, dripping down onto the OPSU, and then falling down.
