Default Do I really need 2 fuel strainers for the fuel pump?

Hey everyone,
I ordered a new fuel pump which came in today. It came with one fuel strainer (the one that attaches directly to the pump), however, it does not fit inside the unit. Autozone sells the larger strainer which sits inside the gas tank, so I was wondering if there is any real problem with just replacing the larger strainer, and leaving out the smaller one that hooks up to the pump.
Also, I still have both original strainers that fit, but it doesn’t seem like it would be a problem to just have the one new strainer in the tank. Thoughts? Thank you
