Looking for DEEP sound, Flowmaster 40 series?
Snooping around looking at exhaust options. I read where it will boost MPG slightly and Im looking to make the car sound good.
So........... Im assuming it wont hurt to leave the fastory cats, and just cut infront of the Y Pipe, add an H pipe, a muffler of choice, and some tips. The question is WHAT muffler will give me a deep rumble (I know thats hard on the V6) Listened to a LOT of clips, the 40 series flowmasters seems to have a nice deep sound, I have also read that an H pipe deepens the tone too. Any imput is appreciated.

I just have a single flowmaster 40 that came on the car when I bought it and it has a decent sound, so im going to cut the Y pipe and just run a dual flowmaster 40 exhaust no H pipe and get some tips. I know ill never get that GT grumble without long tube headers so as long as it sounds decent im happy

My local muffler shop has knockoff brands of just about anything you can think of. The shop owner shops around and finds relatively good quality off-brand stuff. Sure he will install the good stuff but h like to offer some $$$$ saving options too. Been very happy with the other exhaust work. Had an entire system built from my headers back on my 94 F150 for $350, thats with 5in echo tips and 2.5" pipe.

Don't cut out on an off brand, my buddy Tyler learned all about that with his 02 V6 he had years ago when the exhaust started rusting out all over the place just a little over a year after it was installed, then he put long tubes with Magnaflows and really killed the sound.
The flowmasters will sound really good with your stock setup, so will magnaflow, just don't put mags on long tubes. Also, make sure the shop uses stainless steel or aluminumized pipe, if they don't you'll be like tyler and have a rusted out exhaust system. I'd also say to stay away from cheap knock offs because they are usually sort of restrictive (meaning less sound/power) and aren't as good of quality.
Also, you do not need an h pipe, what you want is the exhaust cut just behind the y and have straights welded in with your choice of muffler. The H/X pipe set up is only needed on V8 engines which have an offset firing order, the V6 has and even firing order which means it doesn't need a cross over.
V6 firing order: 1-4-2-5-3-6 which means air will flow evenly out the exhaust.
5.0 firing order:1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 as you can see, on multiple instances 2 cylinders are firing on the same side of the engine behind one another which creates and extra buildup in the exhaust on that side which is why a cross over is needed.
