I'm getting a 03 on saturday.. decent deal and only 40k miles on it.

I've to hold off on an 8 cylinder cause of mpg... believe me i'd rather have a GT but I did have to spend around 1000-1100$ on gas in just a 2 month period... so i guess its for the best.

The mpg is marginal at best.... Your not really benefiting one way or another.... Maybe if you drove half normally and didnt roast the tires from every stop you wouldn't have 1000$ gas bills. Life isnt a race slow down.

As stated MPG isn't that big between V6 and GT it comes down to the driver knowing how to properly drive to keep MPG where it should be. Both the V6 and GT/Cobras all get approximately the same MPG with evenly mixed driving, in some cases the V6 can get worse due to the power/weight ratio. The V6 is only superior on longer commutes.

Put it this way, I own 3 Mustangs. A 5.0 Cobra, 4.6L 3V GT, and the 3.7L V6. The 5.0 gets around 21 MPG mixed driving. A max of 22.5/23 but that's about as good as it will get. The GT gets around 21-22 MPG mixed driving with a max of around 25 on longer trips. The V6 has been getting around 20.5-21 MPG (my fiance' driving the car) mixed driving, but pulls off an incredible 29/30 mpg on long trips.

So see, in general they all get about the same. If your GT was getting worse then this then you need to learn how to drive and quit acting like an idiot. Not yanking your chain but all three of my cars have more power than your older GT and if I'm getting better MPG then there is something very wrong and dangerous with the manner in which you are driving.

There used to be a site mod on here that had a HCI vortec GT with 3.73s and he used to average 1-2 mpg better then me.....

Built V6: 20mpg highway TOPS on 3.73s 16ish City
Pretty much stock I did like 16c 18hw on 3.73s

stock wasn't much better. But thats PRETTY ****TY but also out of an automatic.

Friend has built 2000 GT, high compression pistions, forged, cammed, P&P, 5speed, 4.10 gears, LTs O/R exhuast, blah blah blah blah performance out the ***. Anyways V8 + **** ton performance + 4.10 gears and he still gets 25mpg on the highway..... running mid/high 12's on engine in the 1/4 on sreet tires ... Full suspension blah blah ...

A properly maintained GT usually gets better mpg then a 3.8 V6 ... the mpg excuse is BS and you'll realize that the more you get around these cars ...

Burning up tires with a slow ride is EPIC FAIL. Nothing worse than a jackass burning out with a 16 sec+ car, one word, EMBARRASSING!!

Detroit yes on a 31 spline set up, with some 4.56s ( say F it to highway mileage )
Then just do a turbo kit. Dont waste your money on ANYTHING else besides a handheld tuner and turbo kit. After you do that, you have the custom exhaust done, then you can work on HCI.
WoW, at this post!!

Quit launching your car so hard and you wouldn't break them.....

If you looking to peel out then go get some ****ty tires and have fun.....or go buy a 5.0 lol

But for the MPG talk...the stock 98 sixer got 29mpg best on my trip to IN from TX but averaged more 26-28.....the 5.0 averaged 23-25 the whole way with some playing.... 3.73's and some motor work....
