Homemade Strut Tower Brace

I just finished installing my homemade strut tower brace on missysmustang '06 V6. It's a bit crude and the paint doesn't match, but I made it from scrap metal that I had in the garage. It actually is quite strong. Maybe not race worthy, but better than nothing. When I get some more time and better weather, I'll grind the welds down and repaint it with the right color. Here's a couple of pics

I haven't had a chance to drive it since I put it on. We're expecting snow tonight , so it probably won't be driven for a few days. I doubt that we will see much of a difference since we're not hard drivers or racers. I think the real benefit will be long term structural strength. We live in Michigan and have some of the worst roads and potholes in the civilized world. 10 years from now, I hope the front end is still intact. Later this year, I'd like to work on some subframe connectors. I'll need some fresh metal stock for that though.

Darn nice work there.

Speaking from my own experience, after I installed my strut brace there has a noticable improvement in handling, especially over rough surfaces.

The 2007 Shelby GT500 will come with one, so Ford obviously sees some benefit to having one on an S197 platform car...

While it looks like you did a good job, I don't think that bar is going to do you a bit of good.

The way you have it setup, with a weld right in the middle, and the bars angleing forward, I can't see how that would strengthen your strut towers.

Although, if you're just going for looks, A+ for coming up with a unique STB.

I agree. I don't think it's the strongest thing I could have made. It was the simplest way I could make it without without it hitting the hood mat or intake and without a lot of work. All of the professional models I've seen on the internet so far hit the padding and tear it up. If I see a better design, I'm all for making version 2.0.
