Question about K&N Filters
 

I am thinking about purchasing a Drop in K&N air filter for my Mustang. I have two questions that im hoping some of the Mustang owners here can answer. #1 does the K&N filter increase gas mileage, if so how much? And #2 Does the K&N filter increase horse power, if so how much? If you have a K&N filter, please let me know your opinion on it. Thanks.

I asked these same exact questions a few weeks ago before buying my K&N filter.

1) Mileage seemed to have improved slightly. I used to average (both highway and city combined) 18.5-18.9MPG. Bought the filter, took 1 minute to drop it in, and 3 weeks later my average is a solid 20MPG. The day I got the filter my average actually went up really high as I drove to San Diego. I had a huge smile on my face to see 24.7MPG! Quickly went down as I've been doing more city driving since then.

2) Can't feel any difference. Probably less than 1HP/1TQ.

You can get them from summit racing for a great price. I think around 40 bucks. I can't really answer your other questions, maybe a couple more horse power than the crap paper filter, and depending on how you dirve mileage has a slight improvement.

In my opinion you're not going to notice any improvement in gas or power. (your gas mileage will go up on the highway);)

I've got one and my mileage did improve slightly, but I'm not sure if it was the filter or the fact that it had just turned Fall and I was using the A/C less. As for HP, I agree with the others that if there is a gain it's negligable. If you want performance gains your money is better spent on a good intake and tune.

K/N website says ZERO increase in HP for the drop in model. Unfortunately, the CAI model only increases it 7-8 HP and that cost $200+. On the flip side, the drop in lasts forever.

no change in anything other than you will probably never buy another air filter again. mine actually came with a cleaning kit as a bonus from the local parts house.

I would at least go with the K&N cold air intake. You will definetly notice a dif in power but the gas mileage will remain about the same or less depending on how heavy your foot gets. Mods that say they save gas are kinda a no win situation. You put the Free flow muffler on and you press the gas more to hear the muffler lol. You put on an intake and you press the gas more to hear and feel the Intake lol Ya can't win. lol

I would definitly think about getting the K&N Cold Air Intake over the Drop in. Your all ready willing to pay about $50,$60. Mine as well think about adding $140 or $150 more so your car can breath lol those air boxes are rediculas and you'll see if you put a CAI on. NO DROP IN

i bought mine and installed it in about a minute and i gained aroung1.5 mile per gallon gain. it was a good buy that will pay for itself and more.;)
