Saleen Rims Slow?

I just installed my saleen GT takeoffs on my automatic V6. The car seems alot slower in acceleration (in the lower RPMs). Do the wheels weight more? Did anyone else notice this?

The wheels and tires are bigger, so the probably weigh a few pounds more. I have a hard time believing it's enough to notice. Did you check the inflation pressure? underinflated tires have greater rolling resistance.

its not about the weight its that you have abigger diameter its gonna take more to get it rolling, but once its rolling it tends to stay rolling.

bigger rims are good for top speed not 0-60 or 1/4 mile..

i gave a physics example in another thread ill see if i can find it and link you up

Yes bigger rims will cause a sligh lack of accelleration, but if your rim to tire ratio stays the same, like 16" rims with 4" width tires, and 17" rims with 3" tires, then there should be no loss or gain.

Actually I think blackfoot has a point. Wider but shorter tires on bigger wheels (even if the overall diameter of the combo remains the same) move more of the mass towards the edge of the wheel, where it will take more energy to set it in motion.

Well that will cause a problem two, I was infering exact same setup, just different rim size, not width or any other variable, also, remember, some aftermarket rims are lighter than stock rims so that can come into account to.

i know what your trying to say in your other post about the 16-4, and the 17-3.. doing this just keeps your speedo the same... the actual rim size itself will determin your take off speed..

now a lighter 18" could = the same rates as the heavy 16"

your the engineer
