Good advice, thanks. Since I'm going to be doing most maintenance myself, where can I get my hands on a Chilton's (or similar) manual for the '06? Has one even come out yet?

Ken

NEVER EVER buy a chilton, they miss soo much and more often then never, specs are wrong.. your better off saving a bit more and buying the actual service manual..its worth it .. trust me!

They probably won't be out until 2009 or '10. They have to have a few years on a new engine/chassis to make it worth having a book on it. The info in those books is pretty generic and not really specific to your car. Blackfoot has a better suggestion. Also, any Ford parts man worth his firing order will print out exploded views of stuff if you need to take something apart.

A co-worker of mine has a 06 GT, and he bought the Ford repair manual for around $300-400. It is actually three differrent books: mechanical, electrical, and emissions.

The V6 is easier to do a lot of work on, because it doesn't require removing the engine from the car (like you would have to do if you wanted headers on the GT).

i got a fancy card from ford that i get oil changes free for life, and 20% discount off anything ordered by them.. i believe they call it the gold card
Wow, did your dealer do something downright evil to you?

The break in subject was a hot debate on the Corral forums a while back. The general consensus was this: drive conservatively the first 1000 miles, and don't use the cruise control yet (thats apparently harder on a new engine than beating on it). After 1000 miles, switch to synthetic and then drive it like you stole it!

I have seen this to be true on several cars:
If you drive it like a p***y while breaking it in, the car itself will always drive like a p***y. If you're hard on it, it seats the valves more quickly and it gets used to being driven in such a matter.

So, bottom line, this pony was built to run, so let it loose!
Windevil I really like the way you put that!!!! I really do

Yeah, for a lot of things with the V8, you have to lift the engine up, like header installation.

Thanks all. I just bought a 2006 Ford Mustang factory service DVD repair manual on eBay for US$40.00. Sounds like a good deal, very legit seller, excellent feedback, has sold several of them. It would be nice to have a printed version, but I can print any pages I will need as necessary.
