Default bigger wheels for 16" rims

I like my stock rims but would like to add bigger tires in the rear. I understand that "SceaminYellow" added some 265/60/16's but thats too large and deminished offline performance. I was thinking 235/60 or 245. What do you guys think? Anyone switched to bigger tires yet?

Diminished performance? How? Why? A wider tire doesn't diminsh performance (that's the first number in a tire size). A larger wheel and tire combo (like a 20 inch wheel with a tire that's sidewall makes it about 22-24 inches in diameter) is what kills performance.

Going with a 265 width tire is ok, drop the sidewall height down to maybe a 55 or 50, and you're golden. Just remember, if you're drag racing, keep the tall tires and deflate them some so that you can get the power from the engine to the ground easier.

Actually, wide tires dont do much for our cars. We dont havce the horsepower to acomidate them.

i hav 255/45/18's and BTW its the weight that kills the performance not the size.

Actually tire width and does kill performance indirectly a way......it does not neccessarily affect your horsepower, but will most definately affect yout TOP SPEED. Living in the US (given that speed limit is around 70mph) will not affect it much. But for people in Germany driving at high speed on the autpbahn etc, it has a BIG affect.
However, our concern here is more of weight and rim size. Anyway a quick explanation is air-resistance and roll-resistance. but if youi do a search online im sure u will find a better explanation.

bigger diametter tire is directly proportional to smaller differential ratio so effects performance plus extra unsprung weight.
I wanted to keep same diameter possibly and maybe wider thread like 235/60 instead of 215/65. Probably going 245/60 would be ok also but not sure if fits our 7" rim.
