Default hello to all

I've lurked hear for a long time and posted my modest kills in the Street/Strip section. I bought a screaming yellow V6 auto with the lower black striping in April, 2004.

I'm an old fart compared to a lot of you V6ers. I'm a 39yo mailman. The previous cars I've owned in order of earliest to present; 65 Impala SS 283, 84 Camaro V6 auto, 74 Gran Torino 351, early eighties Olds Delta88 POS, 87 Escort LX 5spd manual, 95 Ranger 4 cylinder 5 spd manual, 97ZX2 5spd manual, 98 Contour SE 4cylinder auto, and now my screaming yellow Mustang V6 auto. So no, I don't have a GT. But I do believe this is the fastest car Ive had. The Impala SS and the ZX2 could maybe give it a run, but I'm pretty sure the Mustang will beat them.

The ZX2 was loads of fun with the stich shift and moonroof. I racked up some kills with that one including a Neon R/T, a modded CRX Si, and an 80sZ28.

The 65 Impala SS inspired me to get this car over others saw at the same day for the same price. I could have bought a Neon SRT-4, there were 2 for nearly the identicle price at a dealer right down the street on the same day I bought my Mustang. But I kept thinking about how much fun I had with that Impala SS 283. It wouldn't lay the biggest patch of rubber, but it had a nice little kick. Our 4.0 is simalar, but hits harder earlier. My brother and I used to taske that Impala to a vacant church parking lot down te road and do some insane donuts. I thought about the joys of an NA powered rear wheel drive car, and my Mustang is doing a good job of putting smiles on my face. I haven't done any donuts with it, but enjoy kicking sideways on slippery surfaces where there clearly are no other cars. I love speed, I love stoplight dragraces, but I still wouldn't trade my car for an SRT-4 or Cobalt SS. My Mustang has too much soul.

I have no mods so far. I did get black and yellow floormats and steering wheel cover. I want an axleback exhaust, I've narrowed down to JBA or MRT. JBA because of that article in 5.0, combined with the JBA header which I plan to get, it sounds like a good combo. MRT single axle back is also interesting with the massive hp gains over others, but I hear the sound is obnoxious rather than pleasing. Tough decision. Maybe Lisa will finally post some more info on her JBA like he said she would.

After I get that done, I'm thinking CA-AF-tune, then yellow and black seat covers from Wet Okole, rear sear deduction, and Bullit wheels. I don't want to do anything to make people think I have a V8 GT. I want them to know I have a V6 and I'm proud of it.

Let's see how much I do. But I still love my car as is.

welcome!!! I think you made a wise choice. srt-4's are fast but they don't seem very reliable. take care.

Hey, welcome to the board! I too went from a ZX2 ('02), stick but loaded, to a V6 'Stang ('05). I agree with you that it was a fun car to drive. I also considered the Cobalt for a time while also considering the Mustang, but ultimately, I knew the Mustang was the car for me.
My short list of previous cars:
'85 Ford Escort
'92 Geo Storm Gsi
'90 Nissan pickup 4x4
'88 Ford T-Bird Turbo Coupe
'02 Ford ZX2
'05 Mustang V6

congrats on the new car! i actually drive an 03 SRT. It has 51k miles on it, almost all of them being modified with 50+ passes at the strip and it's still tickin strong, but I understand wat u mean. I was anti-neon until i took it on a test drive...lol. I was planning on picking up an 04 SVT Cobra as a second car, but I want to wait and see if Dodge actually builds the Challenger. If they do I have no doub that the SRT team will put their hands on it and make it even better.

my g/f just picked up a burgundy 03 mustang gt convertible so i count that as mine too...lol. so far we're planning on headers, x-pipe, exhaust, intake, throttle body, plenum, short-shifter, springs, and 3.73 gears (i know that there's a million threads with people arguing which gears are the best). with some sticky tires we're gonna see if it can match my friends SRT. my SRT has too many mods on it so she won't race me (12.9 with drag radials).

good luck with the stang...i like the yellow!

off topic

jigga

Fast + Good = Not Cheap
Fast + Cheap = Not Good
Good + Cheap = Not Fast
that quote is very wise, I agree with it 99%. the other 1% goes to the corvette b/c its designed to run with the super cars and is like 50k.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I enjoyed reading them after a rough day at work. I had way too many beers yesterday (it's a March Madness thing), and stayed up way too late typing up this thread. I didmanage to get my mail route done on time, but it was hurting me badly to put out the effort to do it n a timely matter. I'm usually smarter than that.

I do have tommorrow off, so that's cool. I may post a link here to a webpage I made with webtv, Mostly it's just pics of my puppy and my dog who died last July, but there are 2 pics of my Mustang. Let me see if I can figure out how to do that...

I took the Mustang out to Kil-Kare Dragway yesterday, and ran it in the 1/4 mile. I never ran on an actual dragstrip before, so I was kind of nervous. I did a 15.4 @ 90mph. I made a thread on it at Street/Strip with a lot more details, but I thought I should mention it here for my fellow 4.0ers to check out in case you missed it.

I so much want to buy some mods like an axleback exhaust, but I have important bills to pay, like real estate tax bill. Maybe I can be a male gigolo and turn tricks in the back seat, - oh wait, I took that out. I'll just have to get my bills paid and buy the mods when I have the cash, sigh. I hate waiting.
