Default K&N Cold Air Intake Questions

I am thinking about getting the K&N Typhoon cold air intake kit. It seems like alot of people here are really into the performance upgrades so im hoping some of you guys have installed one of these on your 4.0 and can give me some info.

First question, K&N claims the typhoon gives you 7.7 horsepower to the rear wheels. Does this sound acurate to those of you who have one of these installed? How noticable a difference does the kit make in acceleration and throttle responce?

Second question, Does the typhoon improve gas mileage in any way? If so, how much per gallon?

Third question, Are there any draw backs to installing a cold air intake? Does it void the factory warranty or hender the car in any way? Would the car need a tune after installation?

Any help you guys can give me with this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I'd be interested in the opinions from someone also as I think I'm getting the K&N too.

Here's a dyno test of 11 CAI's on a GT, including a K&N AirCharger. It did well, and supported K&N's hp claims - which bodes well for their V6 claims, I suppose.

I am jealous of those wheels, Moonbaby, I want some like that. I haven't heard reports of the K&N kit for the V6 Mustang, I'll let you know if I find anything.

K&N make quality parts. They're very reputible. The CAI they make could be one of the better "bang-for-the-buck" CAIs on the market. The thing is, most of the guys on these forums are using C&L or MMR intakes. You might actually want to try to find an import guy that has a K&N, because those guys love 'em.

I have the PN# 63-2566 K&N unit. As far as I can determine the only difference between mine and the Typhoon is the material used to manufacture the connecting pipe. One of the features that I was looking for in a CAI was that the piping NOT be constructed from metal. The thick wall of the plastic part keeps the incoming air cooler than the same part made of metal. I can already hear the arguments that statement is going to start!!! Imagine this, would you rather hold on to the handle of a plastic spoon or a metal one immersed in a cup of very hot coffee?

These are the numbers on my '05 5speed V-6, baseline was 168HP, 174HP after installing the K&N along with Doug's (BamaChips) standard low octane tune. After Doug sent me an updated tune customized for the K&N the output is now 193HP. Beside the power increase, the improvement in drivability and throttle response was just plain magic. I strongly recommend Doug's tunes.

Hope this helps.
