Default Busted Fuel Gauge?

Hey everyone, I just got my new '06 Vista Blue Pony Package a couple weeks ago and am loving every minute driving it! I've been reading the boards since I first ordered (beginning of February) and am hoping you guys will be able to help me out.

I just have 500 miles on the car, and went to fill it up for the 2nd time today. After putting 14 gallons in the tank, the guage only says it has a quarter of a tank, and the distance to empty is something like 50 miles. Has anyone heard of this problem or had it themselves? I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow morning, but was just trying to figure out if this is a common problem.

sounds like a bad sensor in the fuel tank. Could be a loose connection. Take it to dealer and they'll fix you right :-)
I had my Junction box replaced with only 900miles on odometer since all my guages started to act up.

I actually had this problem the day i bought my Mustang. We test drove the car and the fuel gauge said it had a quarter of a tank in it. Once we made a deal on the car, they filled it up an dthe gas gauge sank, pointing straight down. No problem they said, we will get it fixed. I had to leave the car for three days while they replaced the entire instument cluster. the fuel gauge is not a seperate gauge by itself. The entire instrument cluster is one unit. Hopefully yours does not have the same proble, but if it ends up being the gauge, prepare for a three day wait!

Yeah i had the same problem, its the fuel sending unit. Not the fuel pump but the "sending unit" but they took it overnight and its all good now!

Mine did that to me once, but when I turned it off and back on, it was fine. ??

Mine has done this as well and I have turned it off and turned back on and it is fine. I noticed also that if I take my keys out of the ignition while I fill it...it goes right up to full. Before it would actually have to sit for a little bit and then it would go to full.

Can't explain the key out of the ignition but it works.

Thanks for the responses! After taking the keys out, putting them back in, taking the gas cap off, putting it back on, and doing several other rain dances around her last night, i still had the problem. But, after letting it sit over night, i went back out this morning and turned it on and it was reading fine. I'll take it in the next time it happens so they can actually catch it in the act.
