I don't think the compressor will turn on if the pressure gets to low. It is the safety feature that keeps the compressor from burning up.

Thanks all. It sure is loud though. The only question I have is, if it's the compressor cycling, shouldn't it do it at idle also? I looked under the hood for a good five minutes and didn't hear it once. As soon as I started driving again though, it started.

ohh it does even while your at idle... just drive up to your garage.. pop the hood. go grab a beer.. invite your neighbour over for a beer.. do the classic stand around hte car and talk about it. and youll see it happen

You are correct that the compressor will not turn on without enough refrigerant. But the compressor will keep cycling (trying to kick on) every few seconds without the proper lubrication that the refrigerant has in it and it will eventually burn it up. But like I said it will cycle like that with the A/C on or off if it is low on refrigerant.

DISTRACTION WINNER

Sorry to say your occasional click sound will probably turn into a constant clicking then you will need to get the compressor replaced. That is what just happend to me. I have just over 10k on my 06'. I know 3 other people this happend to as well. :0(
