I remember reading a consumers report where they rated all the v6s in the new cars such as mustang and mazda 6 etc. They all ranked the same, average in both reliability and maintenance. Basically, in my opinion, the new V6 is not less or more problem prone than any other 6 such as the mazda 6, but ITS MUCH MORE FUN TO DRIVE!!!!

Consumer reports isn't exactly the most objective mag for reviews, I wouldn't trust that magazine to start a fire in my fireplace, much less base a car purchase off of it.

Well, the auto testing facility for CR is based in CT, in a town with winding roads, and roads that are difficult to get the car above 55MPH. Given this, thier reviews lend themselves biased towards european cars, which are designed to handle those types of roads. In addition, thier tests are all based on single sample tests, which no respecitable engineer would go by and/or trust. CR also dosent account for legitmate issues with cars that have a recall. For example, if a car mfgr has a issue with axles, they would recall it, fix it and be done with it. However, many times, CR has known the issue has been resolved and still ding the mfgr. I'm speaking of a documented issue that has been resolved before CR has had a chance to even test the car, they have a bad habit of ignoring these type of details. They also tend to group classes of cars togather that are not indeed in the same class.

I look at CR from time to time, but I take a multi-pronged approach. I look at multiple publications, tsbs, and internet forums/research before deciding on a car.

I am not a big fan of CR also. It seems the difference between a really high rating for a product and a lower rating is usually minimal. My buddy swears by them for everything. Often, if you read between the lines there is minimal differences between the best and their idea of the worst. And YES, they do favor the foreign cars over American.
