Putting rally stripes on yourself?

Putting rally stripes on yourself?
For those who have put on their stripes themselves, how hard was is? I've called up a few shops and none seem too sure about doing it, and i'm afraid they won't get the spacing right, etc. I got the Baltimore Street Mods 10' kit with 1/2 in stripes, i figured 2" between the main stripes and 1/2 in. between those and the small stripes...anyway, on a 1-10 scale with 10 being faghedabouit hard how would you rate the ease of lack of installation of the stripes?

RE: Putting rally stripes on yourself?
i do a bit of work at a vinyl shop, so i will tell you what we do (we actually have never done stripes, but we have done a lot of car/boat stuff)
1. clean the surface (take off dirt and wax)
2. measure it out, mark where you want everything with blue tape
3. spray surface in a soapy water liquid (there are a lot of products that are made for this, i dont know what they are called, but i know soapy water will work pretty well). make sure it is a pretty generous amount on the car and dont wipe it off
4. peel the vinyl and place it where you marked with the blue tape and just let it lay over the soapy water liquid, dont push it down or it will stick and you cannot adjust it
5. align the stripes
6. take a vinyl squeegee and from the middle of the sripes to the oustide (like in the picture below), push out the liquid. this should make the vinyl stick onto the car now
7. wash your car off, and you are done!
note: make sure you push out the liquid from the middle to the sides, or you will get some serious air bubbles that will look VERY ugly
hope this helps

RE: Putting rally stripes on yourself?
a lot of people don't like doing it especially if you want it on the bumper. mine are getting put on right now - they have the hood done and did a 6" gap which i didn't like at first but now i LOVE it. most places don't like doing the stripes because of the bumper and all its curves and cutting it around the license plates, so they charge like $500 for it which is ridiculous. a place is doing it for $200 for me. I got two black 10" stripes with two 1/4" stripes on each side of each 10" stripe

Having trouble finding a place to put mine on in a couple of mths. Looking forward to getting them on. Scared chicken to do it myself, I would have to slit my wrists if I messed up my baby.

I mean.. i would really let someone with some experience working with vinyl put them on.. i mean doing the bumpers would put almost impossible for a beginner, and this is your car were talking about.. so the hood and top and trunk lid are going to be seen all over.. it should cost no more than $200-$250... and its well worth it

RE: Putting rally stripes on yourself?
I just got done installing my stripes. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being hardest I would say they were about a 7. Mainly because of the bumpers. The roof and the hood were really easy! The bumpers were a different story though. Check out my post here https://mustangforums.com/m_1252912/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm
I got my stripes from Baltimore Street Mods also.
On the bumpers, you have to leave the creases alone until they dry and it is warm outside, then with your finger push them downward.
I installed them myself because I couldn't find a shop that would install them for me for a decent price. I called 2 places and they quoted me $600 and $800, so I said forget that I'll install them myself for free!
