Rev it up a little and try different revs for your setup (tires etc.) and "smoothly" drop the clutch until you find where you launch with as little wheel spin as possible (changes with tire temp./wear). From there I usually shift at 1/2-1/4 grand below redline (I've found that with this car, especially when the clutch is new, it doesn't lke to shift at the redline I find that shifting at 5 grand is good when you aren't in a tight batttle, plus it's better on the car. Also the stock shifter/clutch aren't made to make real quick shifts (I shifted at least twice as fast in my '89 tercel). Most of it is just feel as to what to do. Besides we have the torque down low, you don't really need to redline it). I do most of my racing in the Mountains so its more about the actual driving and way more exciting.

My auto seems pretty fast , only a handfull of stick cars in here can beat my auto times..works pretty good from my point of view, jeje. My shifter also stops at D ..and that is precisely so that you dont accidentally shift into Reverse while rowing thru 1-2-3-4. If ur car is out of control , it is easier to regain traction with power to the wheels not on neutral ...if its in neutra it will be extremely hard to regain control......You can be amazed at the details one can pick up thru Speedvision, lol.
