Default used gears and t-loc?

Hey everyone,

I've been a member for a long time but rarely post, I've mostly stuck with cosmetic and audio/visual mods, but i'm ready to get under the hood. I have had a magnaflow axelback for a while and an exhaust cut-out from jegs is on the way. My next mod is definetly going to be a t-loc and 3.73 gears. I found both being sold as a set on ebay used for a 7.5 (half the price i would pay for new). I really want to do the mod but I think buying them new would break the bank. Should I go for the used set???... or for that sort of thing should i just bite the bullet and get em new?

I wouldn't buy used gears, there is no way to know how they were broken in. Case and point, my first gear install was a night mare, wouldn't have lasted 5K, would have blown out my rear end if I didn't get it fixed. Even fixed, they would whine forever. My first ring and pinon set may be floating around ebay for dirt cheap.

TLOK on the other hand I have heard is ok to reuse if a good mechanic examines it.

Hey Rygen do you have 4.10s or 3.73s and do they make noise? Just Curious, one more question what do you think would be better a T-lok or True Trac? No more questions!

OH....I see.....well if i shouldnt use the gears... than i'll probably go for everything new...the auction is set at 170 for both..but if i can only use the t-loc.....I might as well get it new as well being that i would only be saving thirty dollars...i'll probably buy the t-loc then wait for the gears then put em both in at once in june or july. My only real concern is this whole drive shaft thing...I'm more so going for acceleration up to about a 100, even after the juice, so should i even bother to worry about the drive shaft? is take-off like night and day after the gear and t-loc install?

I had 4.10s, then switched to 3.73's. Loved both. Use 3.73's now and yes, they make some noise. Not as much as the 4.10s cause the shop that installed them did it wrong. If you are an auto the TLOK is fine, if you are a manual doing really hard launches, I would go 8.8 rear, TT or Detroit locker.

Gear and tlok was probably my favorite mod. What a big difference!!!! And taking the corners with power to both wheels, woo hoo! Drive shaft, hmmm, I will probably replace mine now that my next super mod project is underway, but a 13 second car usually traps around 100MPH, which is within the limits of the factory shaft.
