3.73 or 4.10 gears on a v6 manual
I posted this late last night... and wanted to know if everyone could sound off and give there opinions today:
I have a manual and want to put in gears and a t-loc, i started a post earlier, but i want to know what every ones opinion is regarding 3.73s vs 4.10s. I have read earlier threads and theres seems to be conflicting opinions. I know their is a trade off between the 2....lower RPMs less gas consumption with the 3.73s vs better launch but decreased gas mileage and higher rpms with the 4.10s. My car is a daily driver, and i log in a lot of highway miles on the weekends. I started off thinking the 3.73s would be better in the long run( better fuel economy, less wear on the engine), but maybe they are a little too conservative, should i just go for the 4.10s?

I'm on the fence too and I've heard different things but what had me leaning towards the 4.10's is that it would really only raise the rpm's by about 300, which when you think about it isn't much. First already goes by fast so anything is going to be amplified by gears I guess. I just wish I could drive each and see but the only thing I'm reluctant about is 3.55 to 3.73 really isn't that much of a bump up in gears.

i have the manual with 3.73's Even those are a little too much in my opinion. On my way home im doin bout 75-85, which is 2500-2900rpm. My gas mileage is down to 23.5-24mpg now, when on highway it was 29-31.

The stock 7.5" differential is a 3.27 so going to 3.73 is a good bump. The only way you're at 3.55 is if you have an 8.8 inch rear end. Otherwise the next bump is 3.45 gears for stock V6's.

The V6 gets 3.31 for either transmission. Only the GT gets 3.55s.

Oooops! Sorry, Jimp is right. The V6 auto and manual and the V8 auto are 3.31 final drive stock. The V8 manual is 3.55.
