Default GT rims are heavy

I was about to place an order for GT rims but decided to hold off. I am still concerned about adding extra unsprung weight to my vehicle.
GT rims and tires weigh about 5-7lb more than current 16" rims. Thats about 5-7RWH that I will loose (20lb of unsprung weight is approx. 100-140lb of sprung weight) Trying to find some lighter tires like the 235/55's which weigh 24lb just like the current 215/65's.
17" sure looks great and 18" would probably look better and I could get special light rims for a higher price but I am not going for wheel look at the moment. Getting as much performance out of V6 NA way is what I am after.

I got the GT rims and they didn't really affect anything for me. I just use it for daily driving and not trying to get every hp out of it though.

thanks for input. So no effect on acceleration at all? By my calculations, it should decrease slightly.

It might have gone down a tiny bit, but it wasn't anything really noticeable. I was worried about that too before I got mine put on (and posted about it lol), but I was happy with doing it afterwards. I really tried to see if it slowed down, but if it did, it was very little and it wasn't enough to spoil anything. It does handle better on turns, and it's nice to feel like you have more tire on the ground.

If you go by the calculations, the accelleration would go down, but you'd then get a higher top speed, for what that's worth...

I put on 18" polished bullitt GT takeoffs and the car felt a little slower but it sure looks good.

I was adjusting my sway bar today and decided to take my 16" wheel off and put it on the home scale. it weighs 42lb so not too bad compared to GT rim/tire = 50lb. Thats 8lb lighter for each wheel or total of 32lb less unsprung weight I still can't figure why it doesn't hurt performance. On my project Civic, reducing 4lb from each wheel increased my acceleration noticebly. Maybe since we have twice as much torque it is not as apperent.
Just wanted to report on stock rim weigh since I promissed in one of my previous post.
