Default drop in Air filter

I dont want to put a cold Air intake on yet...I am checking in to my warrenty rules for that...but in the mean time I would atleast like to have a better Air filter. What works good with these cars? I hear K&N is pretty good...are there ones that are alot better?

I have the K&N drop-in on mine, if you think you might go with a CAI some day then I'd suggest just waiting. The K&N doesn't make a noticeable difference in performance or mileage. The biggest selling point of the drop-in is you can clean and reuse it.

Any drop-in will have worse filtering performance than stock, that is the nature of the beast. For better air flow you give up some filtering quality.

I partially agree with Tres, you won't see much in HP gain, but a K&N will improve you MPG by about 2/3 MPG which at $3 per gallon is noticable in my book. They cost about $55 new (say they last forever) but you can pick one up off of ebay for about half that. You may also ask the folks here on the forum if they might have one they'll sale to you. I know several people had them, then switched to the CAI kit.

so a K&N filter as more flow which means it cleans the air not quite as good as say a stock filter...Is the air that much dirtier where it might cause more damage over time with a K&N?

As you can see, there was very little difference between the filters tested, though the paper element did lose a few ticks as compared to the performance units. In fact, the power numbers are so close as to be identical compared to testing repeatability.

YES, I don`t use K/N but if I did I would service it more often and use K/N cleaner and filter oil.

I have a K&N drop in in the 05, along with a GT take off muffler. I can't quote you better mileage or performance numbers, but in theory, more air in and getting out the back more efficiently should result in better mileage and performance.

I have K&N filters in my 99 YAMAHA ROYAL STAR VENTURE and swear by them (there are two in use). They are easy to clean and maintain and deliver better performance for the motorcycle also (I have aftermarket pipes on the motorcycle also).

I use Green filters. Haven't put on in the 06 yet, but very pleased with it in the 04.
