here is what Royal Purple says,
Royal PurpleĀ® recommends waiting until the manufacturer's first scheduled oil change
or a minimum of 2,000 miles in new gasoline engines.

Ford engines use 5W- 20. This is a synthetic blended oil. I have a Harley Davidson and for years they said never ever use synthetic oils. Guess what...? Now that's all they push and say that you can use it from the start. All 5W- 20 motor oils are partially or entirely sythetic. If you want to use Royal Purple or Mobile 1 then go for it.

I myself am a believer in synthetic oil and have been using it in my 4.0 since my first oil change. My last chevy truck w/5.7L had it in it from the day I bought it and when I sold it, it had 272,000 miles on it. The only problems I EVER had were 1 altenator, 1 water pump and one tranny re-build, and I drove it like a truck. I really believe the synthetic is worth the extra money and that not useing it until a specified number of miles is myth...my opinion.

I think this debate has a long history among car enthusiasts, builders and engineers. I agree with the theory of 1st oil change you can swap. The oils of today are so good (syn. or petroleum based) its an interesting debate (esp. the "true" break-in time for a motor). I can tell you this, I have 2 big blocks apart , 1 with 2500 miles the other w/ 56000 . The low milage motor had a rear main seal issue, we found damage to the journals, This motor always had royal purple oil. (It could have been an assembly issue,,who knows). The higher milage motor was in for a "refresh". Internals look great. This motor always used 20w-50 pnz..... I guess the debate goes on !

Well, I don't know much about Harleys... do they have a wet clutch? If they do that migh be the reason to use synthetic... And never use automotive oil because of the detergents, which are not good for the clutch...
