Well, they are somewhat visible... I dunno, everybody is different... if my dealer said...
"I have a brand new car for $20,000 or this new dented one for $19,300", I would not think twice about spending the extra $700. In fact, I wouldn't have taken the dented car for $1,500 off, or maybe even $2,000 off.
Not passing judgement, everybody has their own relative assessment..... but I go WAY out of my way to keep my car from getting any dings. I often go 2-3 years without getting a ding on a car.
