Default Long tubes, do they require a tune?

Just curious if you can put in long tube headers without requiring a retune. Thanks!

A tune would be better, but you will need a programmer to clear the emissions error code that comes up due to the movement of the O2 sensors. So it would be better to have a tune.

hey I was wondering somewhat of the same thing. My guy who tunes was saying that he could turn off my O2 sensor so I could pass emissions if needed. Well after I get the procharger installed could I install some long tube or short tube and just say hell with the cats? Or do I still need the cats? Cause I was thinking of just going with some headers and highflow cats but if you can fool the emissions with out the cats then whats the point of the cats getting in the way aay.

What ya'll think

You would still need the cats to pass emissions i believe. I dont think you can fool it to make you pass emissions. I have long tubes with magnaflow high flow cats. I would just go with the high flow cats instead of completely removing them. Atleast you will be on the safe side with the cats. With short tube headers you could keep your cats, they fit directly where the stock headers were.

Oh you can have long tube or short tube headers with cats? I though that was the point of those types of headers, to cancel out the cats? huh time for noob question. Whats the diff between normal headers and short/long tube headers then? Is it that they just give more flow? Do they make emission legal long/short headers? Whats the diff between long & short headers?

You do not need a tune for headers.

Nope, you can keep the cats with shorty headers, and with the long tubes. They are meant to be better flowing compared to the stock headers. All shorty headers do is just repalce the stock headers, they just flow better. I have heard the shorty are more for torque and long tubes are more for horsepower.
