Default GT Takeoff Clearance

This question is for those of you who have installed the GT takeoff muffler. How much clearance do you have between the end of the muffler and the valance where the exhaust pipe goes through? From the photos I've seen it looks like 2" to 3" inches. The reason I ask, our car has the factory exhaust tip on the muffler that came with the car. I'm trying to determine if I'll be able to re-install it with the GT muffler.

Thanks for your help. And as you can see this is my first post. Be gentle.

Not exactly sure I follow your ?. The stock V6 muffler has a small tail pipe, kinda angled down. Are you saying you have the accessory crome tip to cover that?

Anyway, a GT take-off has a stailess steel tip with kind of a slash cut to it, and it come straight out of the back of the mufler. Looks pretty good as is, but Ford and others also have an accessory crome tip for it...but it is not the same as the accessory V6 tip.

The GT slash cut will come out an additional inch or two and looks sharp back there. It was installed by a local shop and they took great pains to center it up so it is not anywhere near the body work. Not clear on your question either. It does stick out the back more then the stock turndown.

Default RE: GT Takeoff Clearance

Let me try to be more clear.

The gap between the muffler body and the valance is the distance I'm curious about. The muffler tip supplied by the Ford dealer I bought the car from has a clamp spot welded to the back of the tip. Looking at the rear of the car, there is a bolt/nut arrangement to the inside left that tightens the tip to the tail pipe. If I install the GT takeoff muffler, will there be room for the nut/bolt to clear the valance with the tip installed? According to the paperwork that accompanied the tip, it is the same tip for the v6 or the GT, so it should fit as far as pipe diameter, but since I'll be installing a GT muffler on a v6, well I just don't want contact between the nut/bolt and the bumper cover. It's not a big deal if it doesn't fit. I was just trying to find out if the tip will be re-usable or not. I guess I should just wait until the installation to find out, but patience has never been my strong point.

Hope this is clearer, and thanks again.
