insignificant SHAKER 500 question....
OK,
I got the RDS system working for the radio. I get the title of the artist and the song and the radio station, scrolling across the screen.
Now, when I play one of my CD's that I burned on my home computer, I get a similar read-out; details the artist and the song title much like the RDS on the radio.
Why doesn't the front panel display information from the store bought CD's????? Do I have to copy all my factory CD's to get the front panel to show me the info, or am I missing a set-up on the menu.
No biggie, I love the radio and it seems to function properly. If this is as good as it gets, so be it.

because on a store bought cd it is not in mp3 format and the names are not stored on the cd. if you upload the store boughts to the computer you will notice it comes up as Track 1, Track2....etc.
its not the radio its the CD.

Sorry, I'm still OLD SCHOOL. I buy one occasionally. Thanks for the info, thought it might have something to do with the MP3 stuff.
BTW, the last CD that I bought was the new double album, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS; the one with DANI CALIFORNIA.
Not bad for a 54 year old???
Thanks guys, I thought someone would be impressed that I knew how to "burn" CD's at my age. Just teasing.

Is the new Chili Peppers any good? I loved their older stuff but after Californication, I was kind of disappointed...with what little I heard off the radio anyways...I listen to radio very rarely for a musician

FIrst, the RDS (there is a tip about this under the FAQ section elsewhere in the forum.
You push the menu button until RDS OFF appears on the screen. I pushed the LEFT SEEK button and the display read RDS ON. From this point forward, the stations that are so equipped, provide the listed ARTIST and SONG information and their station identifier, it scrolls across the screen.
As for the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, I love the song DANI CALIFORNIA and the accompanying video (various phases of rock performers through the decades, as they appeared. Starts with the fifties and then a parody of the BEATLES era black and white, right through the heavy metal and GRUNGE era). I've only heard the first CD and enjoyed it, it is mellower then some of the past stuff, but has the traditional RHCP reggae like beat and innovative lyrics.
They were at CHARLOTTE for the NASCAR race, but I didn't see them perform (didn't watch the wreck fest either, I'll wait for a points race, where they really race for something other then money).

For starters, I'm going to provide the caveat that I LOVED Californication, especially the song "Otherside." Stadium Arcadium is AWESOME. I prefer cd 1 ("Jupiter") over "Mars," but they're both great. I liked "Dani California" when I heard it on the radio, but like so many other RCHP songs, once I listened to the cd, I couldn't help but like about a half-dozen songs more than that one. My personal favorites are "Snow (Hey Oh)," "She's Only 18," "Strip My Mind" (if you like Fruscante's (sp?) vocals, you'll love this track) and "Only in Michigan." There's a song "Humb de Bump" that, for me, I find rather annoying on the cd, but I suspect it is a killer live performance.
Also, it seems like nearly every song has a great guitar solo. John Fruscante is definately in top form on this album.
As for RDS and store-bought albums (I'm still decidedly old-school; I don't even own an MP3 player), I've found that literally only a few albums display the info -- mostly smaller, independant bands.
