I donated plasma a few times in college to go on some road trips...it isn't that bad....
some advice, don't eat fatty foods the day you donate....your blood will flow better. It takes a little longer to donate plasma then blood because they basically take it out, spin it through a centrifuge, then put it back in you...then pump some sailene into you, which feels strange, cold, and leaves a metalic taste in your mouth...don't ask me why, as the future m.d.
you do get some riff raff in there, but overall, the places are nice...they have to be clean, so that is a plus. Usually you get to watch a movie while you do it.....
you do have to "qualify"....like no recent tattoos, you aren't sick, have enough iron in your system...a few minor things a healthy person should have no problem passing.
the needle is nice and fat...looks like a small straw you would stir coffee with...
have fun, it isn't that bad, and hell, it is basically free money....just takes about an hour or two to do.

as for sperm donation, one of my off the wall buddies did it and IMO the money isn't worth it. There's lots of screening you have to adhere to before you can donate. They keep tabs on drug use and attempt to track your alcohol/nicotene consumption etc.
Not something I would have wanted to succumb to while I was in college, way back in the day (meaning any time before last december).
