Default SCT X-CAL II question

is it the actual X-CAL that is specific to your car's computer, or it is the program??

Think I found a good deal on an X-CAL, and I know some of the regular favorite tuners for web site members can get you tunes for X-CAL you didn't get from t hem....

just want to make sure before I do something stupid.

Thanks.

The X-Cal II works with our car, and the tune is for our computer. I got my X-Cal and tunes from www.brenspeed.com.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I read on these forums or SCT's that once you hook up the SCT it downloads your vin number. After 3 or so hookups to that car it is locked to that car. I would bet a cold one I'm right.

The tunes can come from other places and put on your SCT as well

The Xcal-2 is tied to your car as long as you have a tune installed on your car. If you flash it back to stock it releases it from that car. Another concern: there is a 4 digit code under your hood on your ECM. Make sure that matches the code of the car you are getting this from. I know there is a different code for automatics and manuals. There might be different codes for different model year or even different months that the car was built or other options on the car. Make sure it's the right one! For instance, I have an '05 automatic and my code is DUR3. HTH!

let me just clarify...

this is a new SCT X_CAL II in box.....

if I bought it, I could get a program from bamachips, etc...and it would work for my car right?

assume since it is new, it has never been used before.

dude, you guys are confusing me about this code ****....

are you telling me that SCT makes however many number of different x-cal II's so that there is a different one for each computer code? I don't buy that.

The program would have to computer code specific, not the actuall x-call II.

anyway, it was on e-bay and I got outbid, so it doesnt matter...I am going to just get it from Evolution and be done with it.
