Default question about oil

A buddy of mine is a pretty big car buff... not particularly a Mustang buff. He recommended that when I change my oil I use a mixture of synthetic and regular oil. I still haven't gotten the owner's manual that I ordered (sadly car came without it) so assuming (and I may be wrong) the motor holds 5 qts, he told me to use 2 qts synthetic and 3 qts normal. He also recommended looking into using a heavier weight 10W-30 in the warmer months. I'm in Chicago and I drive in some pretty heavy stop & go sometimes... summers here are in the 80-100 degree range usually.

Any thoughts on either topic??

Also, does anybody from Chicagoland know of a shop with a dyno??

No, that doesn't make any sense. Use synthetic and nothing else.

its not about knowing how to (i'm sure you have an idea) its about having the supplies to do it with. drain pan, jacks, blah blah...i know how to do it (i worked at a local car place 3 summers ago) i just dont have the ****. I go to ford and they do it for me.

Yeah that's another thing, don't have the supplies. Also I live in an apartment complex that doesn't like it when you work on your car.

The Ford motorcraft is already a synthetic blend (basically what your car buff guy is telling you to do LOL). I would just go full syn or just keep what ford has.

The Mustang comes from the plant ALREADY WITH A SYNTHETIC BLEND!! (5w-30).
I use Castrol Synthetic Blend and when I hit 10,000 I may switch to Amsoil full synthetic as I have my other three vehicles.
I've been doing my own maintenance since I was 16 (30 yrs) and my 1981 Ford F-100 truck has 276,000 orginal miles never been rebuilt. Just passed smog. Again. Doesnt even burn oil. Driving the damn thing 25 years this year!!
