2ND. for Simple Greem. I use a hose nozzel that you can turn the end to shower. Wet down the engine bay , mist it with simple green, use old worn tire brush ( GENTLY) and low pressure shower it off. Soak up puddles with a rag. Been doing it for years and haven't hurt anything yet !

I don't think I would hose it down. What I do every time I change my oil is wipe everything down with a rag and a spray cleaner/degreaser. I just dont want to risk getting water in a place where it may short something out or start a rust problem you can't get to.

simple green is the degeaser i apply before power washing, works wonders on everything, patios, driveways, engines, boats EVERYTHING apart from people, my bro in law shot the 2800psi washed at me and it tool the skin off the back of my hand, crazy power. i used it in mass to cut the 4 inch thick ice on my driveway into breakable and removable peices.

I just leave the car running and spray some soap and water rinse the engine. No problem! Cars aren't fragile but don't pull the trigger when you spray! It looks great!

There was a piece on the SPEED CHANNEL about this very topic. PAT GOSS (he has owned garages in the DC area for YEARS) recommended to NOT STEAM CLEAN the engine, as the moisture of the steam could affect the electronics. He didn't have a problem with a strategic use of the garden hose and cleaner (I vote for SIMPLE GREEN also), but didn't seem too enthused about a power washer. He really stressed about NOT using steam.
