Default XCAL2? Why Buy?

I was just wondering why you need to buy an xcal2 programmer? Cant you just go over a friends house who has one, hook it up and program your stang? dont shops offer this service? bring your car in and theyll program it for 50 bucks or something? I am obviously missing something.

Yeah you can take it to a shop & have it tuned...but the cool thing about having the xcal2, is that you can loaded with 3 tunes, tweak it at your leisure and if you are going to the dealer for warranty work you can always load the stock tune back on! Am I right forum?

I hope others will chime in, but my understanding is that your friend would have to return his car to stock settings before the tune could be loaded onto your car. Also, there is a code that gets input to the tuner that may be vehicle specific (tranny type, etc).

Yes, it's a one car at a time deal. And there is a computer calibration code too that you have to match up as well. Besides it's also not right to do it. I mean that's not fair to the guys that make the programs. You'd be stealing essentially.

Isn't it pretty darn expensive to get your car dyno tuned? I mean, for $379 you can tune your car anytime you want and the best part about the Xcal II is that you can get custom tunes written and sent to you. Check out Bamachips website (not to name drop) and check out the custom tune.

Ricers spend money. Those fart cans must cost something. And I hear they keep "Bondo" in business.

well, i figured if a mechanic offers this service, he would do a better job of it than me. So aren't there mechanics with XCALs that would sell deals such as "CAI with custom tune special $250" and they sell you the intake and just do the tune for you with their programmer instead of selling you just the xcal for $300. Its not a matter of being "cheap" its a matter of being broke and not being able to afford $500 on a mod!

I wouldn't count on it. Good luck with that and let us know if you find someone who does that.
